The ANCP Youth Project of Marie Stopes Nepal has been providing SRH Services to young people aged 10-24 years since the inception of the project and is also reaching Young people living with disability. To make the service more effective an inclusive team with one disabled person has been mobilized in its working district.
Mr. Surya, aged 24, a permanent resident of Pokhara got an opportunity to work under Youth Project at Marie Stopes Nepal and is actively involved as a pop up Volunteer since August, 2016. Being physically impaired (low vision), Mr. Surya was working as an associate at Kaski Netra Hin Sangh before joining Marie Stopes Nepal. In coordination with KNHS, several orientation programs have been conducted at Kaski district reaching most of the Young people living with disability.
“Marie Stopes Nepal has been an enriching experience. I was very less known about the Sexual and Reproductive Health.” said Mr. Surya. Being a Pop-up Volunteer reaching youth of various areas his communication skills has been enhanced and can disseminate information about family planning and safe abortion services provided by Marie Stopes Centers without any hesitancy. His involvement has made it convenient to communicate and aware people living with disability on Sexual and reproductive Health Rights and also motivates others to speak and express their voices in terms of SRH.
MSI/SPN being one of the pioneer organizations working in the field of reproductive health, reaching disabled youth and addressing their needs is one of its great approaches. In co-ordination with other stakeholders and organizations more programs can be organized and make SRH services accessible to this population and aware them. One of the achievements of such program is that now these people are aware where to find the services they need or put an enquiry related to SRH. They can seek more information and counseling.
